Questions buyers ask
Checked against the list built Nov 7, 2026 21:47 UTC (run 20261107T2147Z-6a6d06ea). Each count from the records links to its source.
Is it real?
Does a closure notice mean the equipment will be sold?
No. A WARN notice says an employer plans to close a site, on a date that can move. It says nothing about what is inside, who owns it, or how it will be sold.
Where does the data come from?
Every row comes from government records: California EDD and Pennsylvania L&I WARN notices, bankruptcy court RSS feeds, DOL OSHA inspections and EPA's facility database (ECHO). Distances use Census address, ZIP and town points, or EPA ECHO's point for the facility. To read a city name you type, the lookup also uses GeoNames postal codes (CC BY 4.0); that places your yard and is never the source of a row. Every row links to its record (court dockets need a PACER login). Where the data comes from says what each source does not prove.
How do you know a site is industrial?
By its industry code: manufacturing, wholesale or transportation, so warehouses and couriers count. A California site is kept when EDD files it under such a code or OSHA or EPA list it under one. It is confirmed when OSHA or EPA ECHO lists a business at the same street address, under a manufacturing, wholesale or transportation code, whose name agrees with the filer's or with the filer of an earlier notice for that site. Names are compared word by word after punctuation, suffixes like Inc. and generic words like The, Services or Group are dropped: the first word must be the same, and either every word of the shorter name appears in the longer one or two thirds of the longer name's words are shared. A d/b/a or bracketed name counts. One brand alias is applied: Federal Express = FedEx. 22 of the 38 California sites from Jul 1 to Nov 4, 2026 are confirmed; the others are shown as not confirmed. Pennsylvania L&I gives no industry, so a PA closure is shown only when an OSHA or EPA record confirms an industrial site under the employer's name at that address.
How accurate is it?
On Nov 6, 2026, before launch, we ran a separate check, written without our pipeline's code or database: it re-derived 15 random rows from the government sources with its own scripts. 15 of 15 matched on every date, count, address, industry code and distance. In that re-check, 206 of 206 cited links resolved. An earlier check the same day matched 30 of 30 sampled rows. See the 15 checked rows.
Records can still be wrong at the source. Every row in the results of "Check my area", the California list, the Pennsylvania list and the app has a "Wrong record?" link that stores your note with the row.
What you'll see
How many closures will I see?
Fewer than on a raw WARN list: offices, stores and other sites that aren't industrial are dropped. In California, EDD processed 458 notices from Jul 1 to Nov 4, 2026; their permanent closures name 38 industrial sites (1 more could not be placed on the map and is left out). 19 had 50 or more employees affected and no OSHA inspection after the planned date, and OSHA or EPA confirm 13 of those: they list a business under the filer's name at that address with a manufacturing, wholesale or transportation code.
Within 150 miles of ZIP 91761 (Ontario, CA), 7 rows were made public from Oct 8 to Nov 7, 2026 (EDD's file runs to Nov 4), and 3 had 50 or more employees affected. That is one sample area, not a typical one: Check my area shows your own count.
In Pennsylvania, 13 closures listed Nov 2025 to Oct 2026 are confirmed. 38 more were left out because no OSHA or EPA record confirms an industrial site under their name at that address.
Which areas do you cover?
Results appear only when California or Pennsylvania is inside the radius you pick (up to 250 miles); anywhere else the tool says "not covered" and shows no rows, bankruptcy petitions included, so a yard in Dallas, Chicago, Milwaukee or Indianapolis gets no results today.
WARN notices come from California and Pennsylvania. Bankruptcy petitions come from 14 courts, polled every 6 hours: C.D. Cal., E.D. Cal., N.D. Cal., S.D. Cal., E.D. Pa., W.D. Pa., D. Del., N.D. Ill., S.D. Ind., E.D. Mich., N.D. Ohio, S.D. Ohio, N.D. Tex. and E.D. Wis. A petition from a court outside California and Pennsylvania (D. Del., N.D. Ill., N.D. Tex. and the others) shows up only for a yard whose radius reaches California or Pennsylvania and also that court's state, and only when the one industrial site its name matches is inside the radius.
Not covered: M.D. Pa., S.D. Tex., N.D. Ind. and W.D. Mich., whose feeds are missing, empty or leave petitions out. Not polled yet: C.D. Ill., S.D. Ill., E.D. Tex., W.D. Tex. and W.D. Wis., and every court in other states. Every list names what it did not check.
How fresh is it?
From Monday Nov 9, 2026, the engine refreshes every source each Monday, 06:00-13:00 UTC, and the Monday email follows at 14:00 UTC; a week with no new run sends no email. The numbers here come from the list built Nov 7, 2026 21:47 UTC, last court poll Nov 7, 2026 18:12 UTC. Each court feed keeps only about a day of entries, so we poll every 6 hours.
EDD updates its file on Tuesdays and Thursdays (this one runs to Nov 4, 2026), and L&I edits the PA page at no fixed time. DOL posted a new bulk OSHA inspection file on each of Nov 5, 6 and 7, 2026, and EPA ECHO refreshes weekly; this list read OSHA's file, EPA ECHO and the PA page on Nov 7, 2026. Every row shows its record's date.
What about bankruptcies?
We read the polled courts' new business Chapter 7 and 11 petitions. Individual debtors are dropped, and a Chapter 7 case with a "No Asset" notice is left off your list. A Chapter 11 is usually a reorganization, not a sale.
The feeds give no address, so a petition goes in your territory only when the court's state is inside your radius and the debtor's full name matches exactly one industrial site in OSHA records in that state (EPA records too, for courts in California and Pennsylvania), and that site is inside your radius. The row says "by name only".
Our polling began Nov 6, 2026. Since then the feeds have shown 35 business petitions, docketed Nov 4 to Nov 6, 2026, from about two days of feed history, not a month (by the court's state: DE 12, CA 10, IL 5, TX 5, PA 2 and MI 1). The count includes Chapter 7 cases with a "No Asset" notice, which are left off your list, so it shows fewer. So far none of them has matched an industrial site by name, so no petition is on any list yet.
Do you give me the owner's contact?
No. The notice an employer sends names a company contact (20 CFR 639.7), but the state lists we read leave it out. For a bankruptcy, we show the trustee when the docket names one (usually Chapter 7). We don't sell contact lists.
Using it
Is it legal to use these records to prospect?
These are public records. Federal law makes an employer with 100 or more full-time employees give 60 days' written notice of a plant closing or mass layoff to the workers, the state and the local government (29 U.S.C. 2101(a)(1), 2102(a)). California and Pennsylvania publish these notices. Court dockets are public, and OSHA and EPA publish their data.
In Chapter 7 the trustee controls the assets, and hiring an auctioneer needs the court's approval (11 U.S.C. 327(a)), so we show the trustee when the docket names one.
How you contact a business falls under other rules, such as CAN-SPAM for email. This is not legal advice. The longer answer.
Will my competitor get the same list?
Possibly. Anyone can read these records, and we don't sell exclusive territories. You pay for the work: industrial sites in your radius, each checked against OSHA and EPA, with the record on every row.
Money and data
What does it cost?
$299/mo per territory. Founding price $199/mo, locked for 12 months, for the first 10 accounts. A territory is one yard plus a radius up to 250 miles. The 30-day trial needs no card: start it with your work email. Pricing.
Can I cancel?
Yes. Plans are monthly, with no fee to cancel, and you keep access to the end of the month you paid for. Card checkout isn't open yet, so nobody is billed today.
What do you do with my data?
We store your email, your territory, and how you use the site and app, including session replays of what you click and type. Sign-in codes are kept out of the replays.
When checkout opens, cards go through Stripe, so your card number never reaches us. We don't sell your data, and we don't show other customers which territory you watch. Privacy policy.
Can I talk to a person?
Book a call: 30 minutes on a weekday, in your own time zone. Each request emails a co-founder, who replies to confirm the time or suggest another. Or email hello@closurelead.com.
